Sidney Hornby
Sidney Hornby is a scientific professional recognized for her ability to develop creative clinical or in-vitro product testing strategies to support consumer compelling efficacy claims to drive sales. Her unique talent is built on her strengths in creative research, innovative thinking, and translating science to non-scientists.
Sidney Hornby’s expertise comes from extensive experience in hair testing, clinical research and Scientific Affairs for Johnson & Johnson Consumer Companies, Inc. In her most recent position as Associate Director, Medical/Clinical Research, she was recognized with the prestigious Johnsons Medal for developing the unique claim support strategy for Neutrogena Rapid Wrinkle Repair which continues to drive sales. She was also a 3-time recipient of the R&D Excellence Award recognizing innovative research and claims development. Contributions included:
- New method to assess fingernail strength
- Novel assessment of oil penetration into hair leading Neutrogena Triple Moisture Hair Care line
- Collaboration with MIT designing mild cleaners that preserve the skin barrier
Sidney Hornby also contributed as Business Manager for Mar-Tech Contract Services / Dia-stron Ltd. a leading manufacturer of automated measurement systems for hair care performance claims. In this position, she helped create the laboratory and led claims testing programs serving the hair care and fiber producing industries. She also wrote original papers and gave scientific presentations that increased interest and resulted in increased sales of contract research and instrumentation. She was key in developing the hair fatigue testing method and instrumentation and was recognized with the Hans A. Schaefer Award for most innovative paper.
Sidney Hornby earned her BS and MS in Chemistry from Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, New Brunswick, NJ. There she also completed PhD course work in Chemical Engineering. Sidney Hornby has been an adjunct member of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) and has authored numerous publications and scientific posters presented to the AAD and the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, specializing in anti-aging, skin barrier, hair, nails and dry skin. She has also served as President and Treasurer of the California chapter of the Society of Cosmetic Chemists.
